Thursday-November 3rd

In Thursday's science class, the students will use the data that they have collected from their science fair experiments to build a line, bar or circle graph. The students will electronically create their graphs using the science fair graphing link.

Important Notes:

1) Science Fair Graphs are due Friday, November 4th.
2) Students are NOT to begin their science fair experiments until all paperwork is handed in and signed by a parent.

The paperwork was handed out the second week in October.

Thursday Class

The students will continue working their weathering presentations.
The four types of weathering that will be covered are:
1) Mechanical Weathering
2) Chemical Weathering
3)Weathering by Abrasion
4) Weathering from Organic Activity

The students will create a 5 minute presentation and a poster. I will provide the information for the demonstration. Students may access resources for their presentations by clicking here.

Today in science, the students will view a powerpoint about weathering. Then the students will begin work on their weathering presentations.

Monday and Tuesday Class

The past two days, the students have been working on an igneous rock lab. Today, the students completed the lab and watched an introduction to weathering video.

Thursday Class

Today in science, we dove right back into the rocks and minerals unit. The students watch a short video about the rock cycle. Then, the students read pages 70-73 in their Science Fusion textbook and took Cornell notes. The study will be participating in a lab about igneous rocks on Monday.

Monday Class

Today in science, the students participated in drawing activity to aid in the writing of their science fair procedures. In addition, the students were given time in class to work on their science fair research cards and procedure.

This week, the students will be working on their research cards for science fair. The students are required to have 5 sources. The students will need to have two written sources and the other three sources may be internet sources if they wish. For information on how to cite the sources and use index cards click here.

Thursday Class

Today in science, the students will be retaking the Nature of Science Unit Test. In addition, the students will view the "How to Prepare a Science Fair Project" video. Lastly, the students will learn how to cite sources using the source page given to them by Mrs. Narehood or Mrs. Dillman.

Wednesday Class

Today in science, we reviewed the Nature of Science Unit Test. The students also worked on their test retake tickets. Lastly, we had a brief discussion about the guidelines for researching a science fair problem.

Homework:
The test retake ticket is due tomorrow. Also, the Nature of Science Retake test will given tomorrow.

Today in science, the students finished the Performance Matters Assessment. In addition, the students were given back their Nature of Science Unit Test.

Test retakes will be given on Thursday. All retake tickets must be handed in on Thursday.

Thursday Class

Today in science, the students read pages 22 and 23 from their text book. The students then recorded Cornell notes regarding independent and dependent variables. The students then began to work on Sponge Bob variable worksheet.


Homework: Turn in Science Fair Problem Tomorrow-Should include one to two sentences about why their problem is significant to their lives or others.

Today in class the students will be taking a quiz regarding scientific theory, law and empirical evidence. In addition, the students will be doing a group brainstorm about observations and experiments. Lastly, the students will read pages 20/21 from their textbook. The students will answer a question or complete a "Ticket Out the Door" before leaving.

I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend! Today in class, we got right back into business. The students finished their notes on empirical evidence. In addition, the students viewed a presentation about how scientists use empirical evidence. Lastly, the students completed a "Ticket Out the Door" or a question to test their knowledge of the use of empirical evidence in the scientific world.

Friday Class

In Friday's class the students will be going to the computer lab to work on their science fair project. The students problem for the science fair is due Friday, September 9th. I have created a document that provides links for suggestions on science fair project ideas. In addition, the students took the scientific method quiz retake today. Enjoy the long weekend and have a happy labor day!

Wednesday and Thursday

The students are learning about scientific theories, laws and empirical evidence. On Wednesday the students worked in groups to define theory and law. As a class we then created a T-chart to distinguish the differences between theory and law. Today, the students will start off the period playing a game called mystery bags. The students will then read aloud and take organized notes.

Additional Note: Tonight there is a meeting about science fair at LaBelle Middle School. The meeting is at 6:00 P.M. Please join us!

Today, the students learned about the difference between a scientific theory and a scientfic law. The students completed questions one and two in their textbook and viewed an interactive presentation.

Today in science, we will be reviewing the M&M lab. In addition, the students will play a card game where they put the steps of the scientific method in order. The students will then view a brief video and take a quiz on the scientific method.

Today in science, we reviewed how to properly use Cornell notes. The students then viewed a video about the scientific method. The students used the Cornell notes to organize their thoughts and summarize information provided from the video.

Today in science, the students took a pre-test. The pre-test was an overview of all of the science content that will be addressed throughout this upcoming school year. The students will take the test once again at the end of the school year to determine the student's growth.
